The Lydney Skills Academy

Working closely with Proskills Woodlands Training Service Ltd have found suitable premises to convert, giving us for the first time the opportunity to open a Skills Academy based in Lydney, Gloucestershire adjacent to Glatfelter paper mill. The centre's main function will be to support nationally the Paper, Board, Tissue, Print and Engineering functions with an Apprenticeship centre, similar to the facility at Gernsbach which is sponsored by the German Government and the trade associations. We hope longer term to work closely with Gernsbach to enhance the support and range of both Technical and Vocational programmes available from the centre, such as Adult Craft training, up/dual skilling, TPM, Paper Technical courses plus Management training. Bespoke courses requested by the industry will be held at the centre or at the Customers work place. The Skills Academy wil host a fully equipped 50 seat conference room plus 3 large fully equipped training rooms to run training courses promoted by the centre. These rooms will also be available for trainers or mills to hire, to run their own programmes or events at the centre. We are hoping to be open for September 2010, intake of apprentices. To ensure the success of the project WTS are looking for Industry sponsorship to support this facility. This is an exiting prospect for the Industry and we hope to work closely with all trade and allied associations to make this centre pivotal to the training and development of the future of the industries covered by the Proskills footprint.
